Baby’s First Superfood: Sauerkraut Brine

Some of the most powerful probiotics don’t come from a bottle… Did you know there are more probiotics in a spoonful of sauerkraut than in a whole bottle of expensive probiotics? My nurse mind was blown when I read that and it makes total sense- living food contains potent living probiotics! Below is info on how to serve the brine (juice) of sauerkraut and which versions to look for at the store-while I love making homemade sauerkraut, I have yet to perfect my recipe for small batch (we make it in 40 lb batches!) so in the meantime, check out this easy recipe from WellnessMama.com.

Ingredients

1/4- 1/2 tsp sauerkraut brine (juice) from either a homemade batch, or an unpasteurized, refrigerated sauerkraut (Bubbies brand)

Serving

Spoon ¼ tsp of the brine (juice) only to your baby, before meals.

I like to do so in an oral medication syringe or by mixing with their bone broth. Alternatively, you can add this in with a veggie or meat, such as sweet potato, carrot, liver or marrow. Once your baby is a little older, you can give a finely chopped teaspoon of sauerkraut with a meal daily.

Important Note

Avoid mixing into very warm food, as it may deactivate some of the live probiotics.
